How do you find the right community for you? When you are thinking of a move to a new area with which you are not familiar, it is important to have the guidance of a knowledgeable Realtor.

With any new community, active adult or not, the sales staff on site are employed by the Builder. It is not in their best interest to make sure you have seen all the options available to you in the area. When you work with a Buyer Agent who represents you, you will have a chance to evaluate all your options before you make a decision. Your Buyer Agent does need to accompany you on your first visit to any new community, and any commissions will be paid by the Builder at settlement.

Make sure your Buyer Agent is a specialist that understands your needs. A Seniors Real Estate Specialist (SRES) is a trained specialist that can advise you on all aspects of a real estate transaction that can impact your decision. For more information on finding a qualified SRES in your location, visit Seniors Advisory Real Estate Council.

Active Adult Communities are a new and growing lifestyle that appeals to many Boomers planning for retirement. In Sussex County, Delaware, this is a new concept but it is not the only choice. The Coastal towns of Rehoboth Beach, Lewes, Bethany Beach and Fenwick Island have always appealed to Active Adults from the surrounding Mid Atlantic Region. The lucky ones bought homes years ago for weekend getaways or vacations and eventually these homes have become their owners' primary residences.
