Outdoor Recreation Abounds

Prized for its scenic parks and waterways, Milton is truly an amazing place for outdoor adventurers. There is kayaking, boating, and fishing along the Broadkill River, and plenty of public boat docks and fishing piers. There’s a footpath along the Broadkill River called the Governor’s Walk. To the east, the Edward H. McCabe Preserve features scenic nature trails. To the west, the Pemberton Forest Preserve and the Ponders Tract Trail System offer even more trails.

Just down the road, the Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge is a favorite of wildlife and landscape photographers. And south of Milton, the Redden State Forest—Delaware’s largest state forest—features over 44 miles of trails for hiking, horseback riding, biking, and bird watching.

Need to feel the sand between your toes? Milton is just a short drive to Lewes, another historic gem, and its beautiful bay-facing beach. Lewes is also home to the expansive Cape Henlopen State Park, which offers miles of hiking and biking trails, as well as bay and ocean beaches. And just a little farther, the town of Rehoboth Beach offers an eclectic beachside boardwalk and miles of beautiful white-sand beach on the Atlantic. And it’s got some pretty great outlet shopping!
