Back in the early days of Ocean View, many citizens lived as seamen working the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, Delaware Bay, or Chesapeak Bay, or as farmers and entrepreners. In 1923, Cecile Long Steele raised the area's first flock of broiler chickens, setting off the commercial broiler industry, which remains the states #1 agricultural enterprise. Though farming was the norm through the 1960s, it slowly gave way to retirement community development.
